Music
Khaya only started sharing her music and performing in 2022. Before this, she used other mediums to find her voice and identity as an artist, particularly writing. Her music has been recognised and supported multiple times by BBC Introducing Nottingham. Lots of her music originally starts as poetry. Khaya’s lyrics are highly personable and vulnerable, and often revealing. She uses words to navigate her way through life.
Khaya has always been obsessed with singing and sounds. A lover of harmonies thanks to Destiny’s Child’s, Fulfilled and growing up singing in choirs. Khaya loves to record all of her own harmonies and is greatly inspired by a lot of the world music she heard growing up. Her influences vary from all over - from contemporary jazz to R&B, ska, pop punk, rock and soul. She takes influence from them all.
Currently Khaya is interested in how to share music in a way that feels more sustainable and holistic, and is exploring how to incorporate sound healing into the new music she is working on.
Have a listen.
Here are a few songs I’ve released publicly. Some of my own songs and some featuring me.
